Email forwarding

Payparse reconciles Interac e-Transfer notifications that arrive at your dedicated @payparse.ca gateway inbox. Most merchants forward those messages from the mailbox where Interac already delivers them (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, and so on).

This guide covers how to copy your gateway address, set up forwarding per provider, complete destination verification when required, and fix common failures.

1. Copy your gateway email

  1. Sign in at app.payparse.ca.
  2. Open Dashboard → Linked Accounts (or Accounts).
  3. Link a bank / receiving account if you have not already.
  4. Copy the generated gateway address (for example [email protected]).

Use that exact address as the forwarding destination in your email provider. Do not invent a similar address or change the local part.

Prefer forwarding only Interac mail

When your provider supports filters or inbox rules, forward messages from [email protected] (or with Interac subjects) instead of every inbound message. That keeps noise out of reconciliation and reduces risk of accidental forwards.

2. Provider setup

Gmail / Google Workspace

  1. Open Gmail → Settings (gear) → See all settingsForwarding and POP/IMAP.
  2. Click Add a forwarding address and paste your @payparse.ca gateway email.
  3. Gmail sends a confirmation email to the gateway address. Payparse detects it and shows a Confirm forwarding action on Linked Accounts — open the link, then return to Gmail.
  4. Back in Gmail, enable Forward a copy of incoming mail to…, or create a filter that forwards only Interac notifications.
  5. Save changes.

Outlook.com / Hotmail / personal Microsoft account

Outlook.com does not send a destination verification email to Payparse. Confirmation is handled on your Microsoft account (often via 2FA when you save settings).

  1. Open Outlook on the web → SettingsMailForwarding.
  2. Enable forwarding and paste your @payparse.ca gateway email.
  3. Optionally keep a copy in the Outlook inbox.
  4. Save. Prefer an inbox rule that forwards only from [email protected] when you want Interac-only traffic.

Microsoft 365 (work or school)

Microsoft 365 usually does not email a confirm link to the gateway. The common blocker is the organization’s outbound spam / automatic forwarding policy on the source tenant.

Admin prerequisite (required for most tenants):

  1. Sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center / Exchange admin center as an admin.
  2. Ensure automatic external forwarding is allowed for the relevant users or the organization (anti-spam outbound policy: Automatic forwarding = On, or an equivalent allow for external forward).
  3. Without this, mailbox rules and forwarding often fail with SMTP 5.7.520 (external forwarding denied).

Mailbox / user steps:

  1. After the admin allows external forwarding, open Outlook on the web for the mailbox.
  2. SettingsMailForwarding, or create an inbox rule that redirects/forwards to your @payparse.ca address.
  3. Prefer a rule scoped to Interac ([email protected]) when possible.
  4. Send a test Interac notification (or wait for a real one) and confirm it appears as reconciled in Payparse.

Yahoo Mail

Yahoo Mail Plus (or plans that include forwarding) can send a Forwarding Email Confirmation with a link and/or a confirmation code.

  1. Open Yahoo Mail → SettingsMore SettingsMailboxes → select the inbox.
  2. Set the forwarding address to your @payparse.ca gateway email.
  3. When Yahoo emails a confirmation to the gateway, use the Payparse Linked Accounts CTA: open the confirm link and/or copy the code and paste it back into Yahoo’s forwarding settings.
  4. Finish enabling forward / filter so Interac mail is included.

iCloud Mail

iCloud does not send a destination verification email to Payparse.

  1. Sign in at icloud.comMail.
  2. Open Mail settings → Mail Forwarding (wording may vary slightly by UI).
  3. Set the forwarding address to your @payparse.ca gateway email and save.
  4. Confirm Interac messages begin appearing in Payparse after the next notification.

Proton Mail

External forwarding is a paid Proton feature. Proton sends a confirmation / “Accept forwarding” style message to the destination.

  1. In Proton Mail, open SettingsFilters / forwarding (per your plan’s UI) and add your @payparse.ca gateway email as the forward destination.
  2. When the confirmation arrives at Payparse, open the Confirm / accept link from Linked Accounts.
  3. Return to Proton and ensure forwarding (or the Interac-scoped filter) remains enabled.

Zoho Mail

Zoho verifies external forwards with a confirmation code (entered back in Zoho — not a one-click Google-style link alone).

  1. Open Zoho Mail → SettingsMail Accounts / Forwarding (labels vary).
  2. Add your @payparse.ca gateway email as an external forward.
  3. Zoho emails a code to the gateway. On Linked Accounts, copy the code and paste it into Zoho → Verify.
  4. Enable the forward or rule for Interac mail and save.

3. What Payparse shows for confirmations

Some providers send verification mail to @payparse.ca. There is no webmail inbox for that address. Instead, Payparse detects those messages and surfaces them on Dashboard → Linked Accounts:

ProviderTypical challengeWhat you do in Payparse
Gmail / Google WorkspaceConfirm linkConfirm forwarding opens the provider URL in a new tab
Yahoo MailLink and/or codeOpen the link and/or copy the code into Yahoo settings
Proton MailAccept / confirm linkOpen the link from the Linked Accounts CTA
Zoho MailConfirmation codeCopy the code → paste into Zoho forwarding verify
Outlook.com / iCloud / M365Usually nothing at PayparseComplete setup only in the provider (and M365 admin policy when needed)

After you confirm, return to the provider settings if prompted (especially Gmail: enable “Forward a copy…” or your filter after the link step).

note

Payparse does not auto-click confirmation URLs. You always complete verification in your browser (or by pasting a code).

4. Troubleshooting

Forwarding does not seem enabled

  • Re-open the provider’s forwarding settings and confirm the destination is exactly your gateway email.
  • Confirm the forward or rule is On, not draft/disabled.
  • If you use a filter/rule, check that Interac senders ([email protected]) match it.
  • Send yourself a test path: trigger a known Interac notification and watch Linked Accounts / payments for ingest.

Confirmation was never completed

  • For Gmail, Yahoo, Proton, or Zoho: check Linked Accounts for a pending Confirm / code CTA. Confirmations expire or can be resent from the provider if you miss them.
  • Gmail often requires a second step in Settings after you click the link — enabling forward or the filter is easy to skip.
  • Zoho requires the code to be pasted in Zoho; opening Payparse alone is not enough.

Microsoft 365: 5.7.520 (external forwarding denied)

This is an organization policy error on the mailbox that is trying to forward, not a Payparse outage.

  1. Have a Microsoft 365 admin allow automatic external forwarding for the user or tenant.
  2. Retry the mailbox forward or inbox rule.
  3. Confirm a test message is accepted outbound, then verify Payparse receives the Interac notification.

Still stuck?

See Support — email [email protected] or open an in-dashboard ticket. Include the provider name, the gateway address, and any bounce or policy error text (for example 5.7.520).
